A lead that waits a week for a call back is usually a lead you have lost. Customers, in the Workspace section of the left menu, is where Beside keeps every person who has been in touch, sorted so the ones about to slip away are at the top.
Each one comes with the next thing to do, in one line, so you never have to work out where you left off.
Work your list
Two tabs organize it:
Priority, the people who need something from you now
All, everyone Beside has on file
Use Search customers to jump straight to someone by name or number.
Every row shows the customer, the action Beside recommends, for example Follow up immediately via text or call to confirm same-day appointment time, and how long it has been sitting there. A phone icon means the next move is a call.
What the labels mean
Label | What it tells you |
Urgent | This one should not wait |
Missed call | They called and nobody picked up |
Potential booking | There is a job here if you follow up |
Awaiting reply | They are waiting on you, with the number of days shown - Awaiting reply 11d |
Loyal | Someone who keeps coming back. Worth treating accordingly when you call. |
Watch | Beside is keeping an eye on this one |
Healthy | Nothing is wrong here, and nothing is needed from you right now |
Open a customer
Select anyone to open their Contact record. At the top you get their number and email, their current stage, and a summary of where things stand in one sentence - for example Jen the landlord called back to ask if you reached her tenant about the Inglewood tub - call her at 310-670-1542, with a short paragraph of context underneath.
The header shows Last checked and how long ago, so you know how fresh it is.
Promises
This is the part worth knowing about. Beside listens for what was promised to the customer - Reach out to tenant to set up service time, Send technician out to fix tub stoppage today - and lists them on the contact.
Each one carries its state, for example Fix waiting for approval, which means Beside has worked out how to keep that promise and is waiting on your go-ahead.
Nobody writes these down during a call. That is exactly why they get dropped.
Lifecycle
Each contact sits at a stage - Lead, Qualified, Engaged, Opportunity, Customer - and Beside moves them as their situation changes.
Lifecycle basis shows you the move, how sure Beside is, and what it was reading:
Lead → Qualified, 70% confidence, inferred from call length
Engaged → Opportunity, 95% confidence, intermediate stage filled in
With the date, how long ago it was recorded, and how many transitions there have been in total. Nothing is a black box.
Record details
Underneath you will find Contact role, which you can change from the default of Customer or prospect, Attribution, which shows where the customer came from once Beside can tell, and counters for Sources, Identities, Assessments, Merges, and Interactions.
Review
Anything about this contact waiting on you sits here. When there is nothing, it reads No pending items.
Timeline
Every exchange and every change, newest first: Appointment scheduled, Job updated, Invoice updated, Customer updated, and the calls themselves.
Calls your Receptionist handled are marked AI answered, with the length of the call and a written summary - who called, why, and what they asked for.
Who does the following up
Both of you, and the split is always visible.
Beside is the one watching. It spots the quote that never closed, the customer who has gone quiet, the promise nobody kept, and it turns each into a proposal on your Beside Agent page. Once a proposal is approved, Beside carries it out itself and records what happened. 📖 How Beside works
What stays yours is the work only you can do: picking up the phone, quoting the job, turning up. That is what the recommended action on each row is for.
Merge duplicates
When the same person shows up twice - once as a name, once as a bare number - select Merge at the bottom of the contact.
Merge into opens, and you search by name or company for the record you want to keep. Everything from the contact you were viewing folds into that one.
FAQ
Why do some customers show only a phone number?
Why do some customers show only a phone number?
Beside creates a contact from the first call or text, before anyone has given a name. Once it learns one, the record fills in, and you can merge it with any duplicate you already had.
What is a promise, exactly?
What is a promise, exactly?
Something you or your Receptionist told a customer would happen - a callback, a technician on site today, a quote by Friday. Beside picks them out of the conversation and keeps them on the contact until they are dealt with, so a promise made on a Tuesday call does not quietly expire on Thursday.
Beside put someone at the wrong stage.

Open Lifecycle basis on the contact - it tells you what Beside read and how confident it was. A low confidence usually means it was working from thin evidence, like the length of a call rather than what was said in it.
Does Beside contact my existing customers too?
Does Beside contact my existing customers too?
Beside watches for quotes that never closed and for customers about to lapse, and proposes what to do about each.
Why is Beside not following up on my quotes?
Why is Beside not following up on my quotes?
Chasing unclosed quotes and spotting customers about to lapse both rely on a connected customer system, because that is where the jobs and quotes live. You can add one from Connectors. Without one, Beside still works your calls and texts but cannot see the rest. 📖 Connect your tools to Beside Agentic
