Set up Beside on a new phone

Switched to a new iPhone or Android? Here's how to get Beside working again - log back in, restore call forwarding, and avoid creating a duplicate account.

If you recently switched to a new phone and transferred your apps, Beside might not work as expected right away. Here's what to check to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Common symptoms

After transferring to a new phone, you might notice:

  • The app looks logged in, but you're not receiving calls or messages

  • Your call forwarding settings aren't working anymore

  • The app feels unresponsive or silent

These issues are usually caused by the way your phone transfers apps to new devices.

Why this happens

When you set up a new phone from a backup or transfer, most app data is restored - but not your login credentials. That means Beside might look like you're logged in, but behind the scenes, you're not. This can prevent calls and notifications from coming through.

πŸ“Œ Platform note:

  • iPhone: iCloud transfers most app data but not login credentials.

  • Android: Google backups similarly restore the app but not your active session.

How to fix it

To restore full functionality, you just need to refresh your session:

  1. Open the Beside mobile app.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Tap Log out.

  4. Log back in using the same credentials you used when first creating your account.

πŸ“Œ Which credentials to use:

  • iPhone: same phone number or Apple ID

  • Android: same phone number or Google account

⚠️ Important: Always log back in with the same credentials you used to create your account. Using different credentials will create a duplicate account.

πŸ“Œ If logging out doesn't work: Try deleting and reinstalling the app, then log back in with the same credentials.

Re-enable call forwarding

If you had call forwarding set up on your old device, double-check it's still active after switching phones:

  1. Open the Beside mobile app.

  2. Go to Settings β†’ Beside Number β†’ Call Forwarding.

  3. Disable and re-enable forwarding if needed.

πŸ“Œ If forwarding still doesn't work:

  • Some carriers automatically disable forwarding when you switch phones.

  • iPhone only: Open your iPhone Settings β†’ Phone β†’ Call Forwarding and make sure it's turned on with the correct Beside number. iOS sometimes resets these settings during device transfers.

Business plan - shared line access

If you're part of a shared πŸ‘₯ Business line and recently switched to a new device, you may lose access to the shared line.

⚠️ Known limitation: Invited members who change devices will need to be reinvited by the account owner to reconnect to the shared line.

FAQ

I logged back in but I'm still not receiving calls - what should I do?

First, check your call forwarding settings in the Beside mobile app under Settings β†’ Beside Number β†’ Call Forwarding.
If forwarding looks correct there and you're on iPhone, also check your native settings under Settings β†’ Phone β†’ Call Forwarding - iOS sometimes resets this during a device transfer.

Will I lose my call history when I switch phones?

No - your call history, contacts, and settings are tied to your Beside account, not your device. As long as you log back in with the same credentials, everything will be there.

I accidentally created a duplicate account - what now?

If you logged in with different credentials and created a second account, your subscription and history are still linked to your original account.
Log out of the new account and log back in with the phone number, Apple ID, or Google account you originally used.

Do I need to set up my AI Receptionist again after switching phones?

No - your AI Receptionist settings are saved to your account. Once you log back in with the correct credentials, everything will be restored automatically.

Does this apply to Android too?

Yes - the same steps apply on Android. Log out and log back in with the same phone number or Google account you used to create your account. The call forwarding section in iPhone native settings (Settings β†’ Phone β†’ Call Forwarding) is iPhone-only and doesn't apply to Android users.
