Track your Google Search performance

Google Search Console in Beside: clicks, impressions and top search queries for your website. Beside sets it up for a site it built, or reads the property you already have, and selects the matching property automatically.

Google Search Console is where Google reports how your website is doing in search results: how often it came up, how many people clicked, and what they typed to find you. Beside reads it for you and shows it under Google Search, in your website settings.

How you get there depends on where your website came from. If Beside built it, this is already set up. If you already have a Search Console property of your own, you connect Google once and Beside picks the right property itself.

If Beside built your website

There is nothing to connect. When Beside builds your first website, it also handles Search Console for you: it puts an ownership tag on your home page, asks Google to confirm the site is yours, registers it, and submits your sitemap.

You do not sign in to Google and you do not choose a property. Setup progress, and anything that went wrong, show up in the Google Search panel.

📌 It starts at your first publish:

  • Google can only check a website that is actually live, so the setup finishes after your first reviewed publication, not while your site is still a draft.

If you already have a Search Console property

Open Settings → Connectors, select Google Search Console and sign in with the Google account that has access to your property. Beside asks for permission to read your search performance, and to request ownership tokens for your website.

You do not pick a property from a list. Beside looks at what your account can reach and selects the one that covers your website, narrowest first:

  • The property for your website itself

  • Otherwise a parent URL prefix that contains it

  • Otherwise a domain property

If none of them covers your website, Beside reads nothing rather than showing you someone else's numbers. When a property can cover several sites, Beside reads only your website's pages from it.

💡 Your history comes with you:

  • Beside asks Google for the figures when you open the panel, so your past search data is there as soon as you connect. There is no waiting period to build up.

Read your search performance

Open Website, then its settings, then Google Search. You get your daily clicks and impressions for your website, and two ways of comparing them:

  • The latest 28 days against the previous 28, so the same weekdays are covered on both sides

  • The 14 days before and the 14 days after a publication you pick, so you can see what changed when your site changed

Underneath, Top search queries shows the ten searches that brought you up the most, with their impressions, clicks and average position. Refresh data fetches it all again.

Reading the numbers honestly

  • The last three days are missing on purpose. Google reports them incomplete, so Beside leaves them out rather than showing you a dip that is not real.

  • These figures can differ from Search Console's own. Beside filters the property down to your website's pages, and Google counts filtered pages differently from whole-property totals.

  • Average position is not your rank. It describes the impressions Google actually recorded. A position of 1.0 off a handful of impressions means very little, which is why impressions and clicks sit next to it.

  • Top queries is not a keyword tracker. Google returns its own top rows and leaves out searches made too rarely to report, including anonymized ones.

  • A comparison is not a cause. If traffic moved after a publication, that is what the chart says, and nothing more.

🟡 If you change your domain:

  • Your history belongs to the old address. Beside does not stitch two domains together, so expect the chart to start again after a move.

Prove to Google that you own the site

Google only reports on a website whose owner it has confirmed. If your Google account already owns a property whose address matches your Beside website, Beside takes care of this: it requests the ownership tag from Google and adds it to your home page at your next reviewed publication.

Connecting Google never publishes a draft for you. If something is waiting, the Website panel tells you publishing is needed. After your site is live, Check with Google asks Google to confirm the tag, and successful checks show when they ran.

Under Saved verification tags, you can remove a tag you no longer want or restore one you removed. Removing a tag does not take effect until your next publication, and a removed tag stays removed even if you roll your website back.

📌 Two cases Beside cannot do for you:

  • Domain properties are verified through DNS, at your domain provider

  • Websites hosted outside Beside are verified wherever they are hosted

Troubleshooting

The panel shows no data

Either Google has nothing yet for your website, which is normal for a site that went live recently, or the connected account cannot reach a property that covers it. Check in Google Search Console that the account you connected has access to the right property, then select Refresh data.

Verification is stuck

The tag only reaches your live site when you publish. Open Website, publish any waiting changes, then come back and select Check with Google. If your property is a domain property, verification happens in DNS instead and Beside cannot complete it.

The numbers do not match Search Console

That is expected. Beside reports your website's pages only, while Search Console shows you the whole property by default. Google also counts figures differently once a page filter is applied.

The chart did not update after I refreshed

Results are held for five minutes in your browser, and the most recent three days are never included because Google reports them incomplete.

FAQ

Do I need a Search Console account?

Not if Beside built your website. Beside registers and verifies it for you, with its own Google account, and you see the results in the Google Search panel. You only connect Google if you already have a property of your own that you want Beside to read.

Can I choose which property Beside reads?

Beside selects it for you, taking the property that covers your website most closely. This is so it can never report on a site that is not yours. If the wrong one seems to be in use, check which properties the connected Google account can reach.

Does connecting Google give Beside access to my other websites?

No. Beside reads search performance only, and only for the property that covers this workspace's website. Your other properties are never listed or reported on.

Does connecting make Beside an owner of my property?

No. If your account already owns a matching property, Beside asks Google for the ownership tag for your website so the site stays verified. It does not create properties, change your DNS, or promote anyone to owner in Google.

Who can see this?

Everyone in the workspace can read the figures. Connecting Google, choosing what happens to the ownership tag and running setup are account owner actions.

What happens if I disconnect Google?

Live reporting stops, but the search figures saved alongside each published version of your website stay readable. Disconnecting does not remove the ownership tag from your site: to take that back, remove the tag under Saved verification tags, publish, and remove the account's access in Google Search Console.

Is this the same as my website analytics?

No. This is what happens on Google before someone reaches you: searches, impressions, clicks. What visitors do once they land on your site is in the Analytics tab of your website.
