Caller Memory

Let your Beside AI Receptionist remember repeat callers so they don't start from scratch each call. Caller Memory is in beta on iPhone, Android, and Beside on the web.

Caller Memory lets your AI Receptionist build context about individual callers over time. When the same person calls again, your AI can use what it already knows instead of starting from scratch.

Example: a customer calls about a delivery window one week. With Caller Memory on, your AI already has that context the next time they call.

📌 In beta: Caller Memory is rolling out gradually on iPhone, Android, and on Beside on the web, so you may not see it on your line yet.

How Caller Memory works

When Caller Memory is turned on for a line:

  • After each call handled by your AI Receptionist, Beside builds a short summary of what was discussed with that caller.

  • On future calls from the same number, your AI uses that summary to give more relevant, personalized responses.

  • Memory is per caller, per line. The same caller has separate memory on each line they call.

Caller Memory is off by default.

Turn Caller Memory on or off

Caller Memory only applies to calls handled by your AI Receptionist, so make sure your AI Receptionist is set up first.

On mobile (iPhone + Android)

  1. Go to AI Receptionist and open the Phone tab

  2. Scroll to the Instructions section and tap Caller Memory

  3. Toggle Caller Memory on or off

Changes save automatically for that line.

On the web app

  1. Go to app.beside.com and click AI Receptionist in the sidebar

  2. If you have more than one line, select the line from the dropdown at the top

  3. On the Phone Calls tab, scroll down to Caller memory

  4. Use the toggle

Changes save automatically.

View or edit memory for a specific caller

Once Caller Memory is enabled, you can see what your AI has stored about a specific person from Beside on the web:

  1. Open a private (1:1) chat with that contact

  2. In the chat header, click the Caller memory icon (sparkle / note icon)

  3. A panel shows the stored summary, which you can edit and save

If Caller Memory is off, or nothing has been stored yet for that caller, the panel may be empty or the icon may not appear.

Good to know

  • Caller Memory can only be switched on or off at the line level, not per individual chat.

  • Your AI does not yet greet callers by name, even when a name is stored.

It applies to calls handled by your AI Receptionist. Beside builds the summary after the call ends.

Why don't I see Caller Memory on my line?

Caller Memory is in beta and rolling out gradually, so it may not be on your line yet. It's available on iPhone, Android, and on Beside on the web.

Is Caller Memory included in my plan?

Can I edit or delete what my AI remembers about a caller?

Yes, from Beside on the web. Open the contact's 1:1 chat, click the Caller memory icon in the chat header, then edit the summary - or clear the text to remove it - and click Save. To stop your AI remembering a caller entirely, turn Caller Memory off for that line; otherwise a new summary may be built after the next call.

If a caller uses two of my lines, is memory shared?

No. Memory is separate per line. The same caller has independent memory on each line they call.

Is Caller Memory available on Android?

Yes. Caller Memory is now rolling out on Android (from Beside 1.18.0), alongside iPhone and Beside on the web. It's still in beta and rolling out gradually, so you may not see it on your line yet.
