Keep your business details the same everywhere

Why your business name, address and phone (NAP) should match on Google, Yelp, BBB and directories, what Beside checks, and the to-do it gives you.

Your business appears on many sites you may never have set up yourself: Yelp, Facebook, Bing, Apple Maps, BBB, Angi, Nextdoor and trade directories. Each of these listings, also called citations, shows your business name, address and phone number, often shortened to NAP.

When those details disagree, customers call an old number, and Google and AI assistants like ChatGPT have a harder time trusting any of them. Beside checks your listings for you and tells you exactly what to change on each site.

Why matching details matter

  • For customers. A homeowner who finds you on Yelp and calls the number from three years ago does not try again. They call the next plumber or cleaner on the list.

  • For Google and AI assistants. They piece together who you are from many sites. When your name, address and phone match everywhere, it is easy to tell those listings are all you. When a directory shows an old phone or a different name, they trust your details less.

What counts is a real difference: an old phone number, a former business name, a previous address. Small formatting differences do not matter. Beside compares phone numbers by their digits, ignores punctuation, "LLC" and similar endings in names, and compares addresses by street number and ZIP code.

Start with the right details

Beside checks every listing against two sources: your business details in Beside and your Google Business Profile. Get those two right first.

If Google and your details in Beside show a different phone number or address, Beside does not guess. It asks you first, in a to-do called Confirm your business details, and checks your other listings once you have told it which one is right.

What Beside checks

After each Marketing Audit, Beside compares the listings the audit found on other sites with your correct details.

  • A listing only counts as yours when its phone number or name matches, so another business's page is never reported as yours.

  • A detail a page does not show is not judged. A page that mixes your details with another business's is skipped too.

  • Google and your own website are not part of this check, since they are the reference.

📌 Beside does not edit other sites:

  • Yelp, BBB and the directories only let the business owner change a listing, through their own sign-in. Beside does not edit or create listings there. It tells you what to change and checks your work afterwards.

Fix the listings Beside finds

When listings are wrong, you get one to-do, titled Fix your business details on followed by the site, or by the number of sites. It lists one line per listing, wrong phone numbers first, then names, then addresses, with a link to each page. For example:

Yelp: the phone number is (512) 555-0100, change it to (512) 555-0199.

It shows up to five listings and counts the rest.

What to do

  1. Open each link and sign in to that site as the business owner. You may need to claim the listing first.

  2. Change the detail the to-do names.

  3. Select Mark as done on the to-do, or tell Beside in Chat that you updated your listings.

What happens next

  • Beside reads those listings again right away, without running a new audit.

  • If every listing now matches, the to-do closes. If some are still wrong, it keeps only those.

  • Some sites take a few days to show an edit, so Beside checks once more three days later.

💡 Short on time? Fix phone numbers first:

  • A wrong phone number loses you calls today. That is why the to-do lists them first.

FAQ

Why isn't a site I know about in my to-do?

Either its details already match, or Beside could not read the page or confirm it is yours. Beside only reports listings it could read and match to your business by phone or name.

I moved or changed my number. What do I update first?

Your business details in Beside and your Google profile, so they agree. Beside then checks your other listings against the new details and lists every site still showing the old ones.

I fixed a listing but it is still in my to-do.

Some sites take a few days to publish an edit. Beside checks again three days after you mark the to-do done, and drops each listing once it reads the right details there.

Can Beside change my details on Google?

Yes, Google is the one place Beside can update for you, once your Google Business Profile is connected. Changes to your business name, address or phone start on Always ask, so they wait for your approval. 📖 Choose what Beside can do on its own

Will matching details improve my ranking?

Nobody can promise a ranking. Consistent details remove one reason for Google and AI assistants to doubt your listings, and they stop customers calling a wrong number, which is worth fixing on its own.
