Stop recording a call

Stop call recording during a live Beside call, or disable recording for specific contacts - plus legal reminders on consent.

Updated this week

Beside offers two ways to stop call recording: you can disable it manually during a call, or turn it off by default for specific contacts. This is helpful for sensitive conversations, clients who request not to be recorded, or personal calls on your business line.

Stop recording during a live call

All calls made through Beside are automatically recorded and transcribed by default. If you need to stop recording while on a call:

  1. Locate the recorder icon on the left side of your call screen and tap it

  2. A pop-up will appear asking to confirm that you want to stop the recording

  3. Confirm by tapping Stop Recording

Stop recording button

📌 Note: Once you stop recording, it can't be restarted for that same call. If you want to resume recording, you'll need to hang up and place the call again.

Disable call recording for a specific contact

If you want to automatically prevent recording for a specific person:

  1. Open the conversation with that contact in the Beside mobile app

  2. Tap the + icon to the left of the message composer

  3. Tap AI Receptionist

  4. Toggle off Call recording

That contact's calls with you will no longer be recorded.

Legal reminder

Call recording laws vary by state. In some states, you're required to inform the other party before recording. Beside includes an automatic consent notice that you can enable.

FAQ

Can I restart recording after stopping it mid-call?

No. Once you stop recording during a call, it cannot be restarted for that same call. You would need to hang up and call again to record a new session.

Are AI Receptionist calls also recorded?

Yes. Calls handled by the AI Receptionist are recorded and transcribed by default, just like your own calls. You can disable recording for specific contacts if needed.
