Archive and delete conversations

Archive or permanently delete conversations in Beside - hide chats from your main view or remove them entirely, including call history and texts.

You can archive or permanently delete conversations in Beside to keep your ๐Ÿ’ฌ Text tab organized. Archiving hides a conversation without removing it, while deleting removes it permanently.

๐Ÿ“Œ Archive and delete are mobile-only. You can only archive or delete conversations from the Beside mobile app (iPhone or Android). The web app at app.beside.com and Beside for macOS don't have these controls yet - but once you delete a conversation from the mobile app, it's removed everywhere you're signed in.

Archive a conversation

Archiving hides a conversation from your main view without deleting it.

  1. Long-press the chat you want to archive in the Beside mobile app

  2. Tap Archive

You can view all archived conversations anytime by opening the Archived tab from the ๐Ÿ’ฌ Text screen.

Delete a conversation

You can permanently delete entire conversations in Beside. This removes all history with that contact, including call transcripts and summaries, voicemails, voice notes, and text messages.

To delete a conversation in the Beside mobile app:

  • Swipe left on the conversation and tap Delete, or

  • Long press on the conversation and select Delete

โš ๏ธ Important:

  • Once deleted, the conversation cannot be recovered.

  • You cannot delete individual messages - only entire conversations.

Mark conversations as read

To mark a single conversation as read without opening it in the Beside mobile app:

  1. Long-press the conversation in your ๐Ÿ’ฌ Text tab

  2. Tap Mark as Read

๐Ÿ“Œ Note: There is no "mark all as read" option yet. You need to mark conversations as read one at a time, or open each conversation to clear the unread badge.

Archive voice memos

Voice memos can currently be archived only, not permanently deleted. More control over voice memo management is planned for a future update.

Known limitations

๐Ÿ“Œ Note: If you don't see the option to delete a conversation, it's likely because the contact is also a Beside user. Archiving and deleting conversations with Beside contacts is not yet supported - this will be improved in a future update.

FAQ

Can I unarchive a conversation?

Yes. Go to the Archived tab in the Inbox screen, find the conversation, and long-press to unarchive it. It will return to your main conversation list.

Can I mark all conversations as read at once?

Not yet. There is no "mark all as read" feature at this time. You need to mark conversations as read individually by long-pressing each one, or by opening the conversation to clear the unread badge.

Can I delete individual messages instead of the whole conversation?

No. Beside currently only supports deleting entire conversations. Individual message deletion is not available.

Can I bulk-archive or bulk-delete multiple conversations at once?

Not yet. You need to archive or delete conversations one at a time. Bulk actions are not available at this time.

Why can't I delete a conversation with a specific contact?

If the contact is also a Beside user, the delete option may not appear. This is a known limitation that the team is working to resolve in a future update.

I'm on the web app or Beside for macOS. How do I delete a conversation or its call recording?

You can't delete directly from the web app or Beside for macOS - these controls are only available in the Beside mobile app today. Open the conversation on your iPhone or Android, then swipe left and tap Delete, or long-press and select Delete. Once deleted, the conversation and its call recordings are removed across all your signed-in devices, including web and macOS.
