♾️ Cross-platform access

  • A mobile Starter or Business subscription gives you full access to Beside for macOS.

  • A desktop Starter subscription gives you full access to the Starter plan on mobile.

ℹ️ The steps to create your desktop account differ depending on whether you're already using Beside on your phone or starting fresh on your Mac.

📖 This article walks you through downloading the app, creating your account, and keeping everything in sync across devices.

🌴 Traveling abroad? This article explains how to keep using Beside on both mobile and desktop, and outlines current regional limitations.

🌀 How to switch plans on mobile

You can change your subscription anytime directly from the Beside mobile app:

  • Open the Beside app

  • Go to Settings → Manage Plan

  • Select the plan you want

💰If you’re on Starter and upgrade to Business, you will not be double-charged.

Apple or Google will automatically cancel and prorate your previous subscription.

📌 Important:

You must upgrade or modify your plan on the platform where you originally subscribed.

  • Subscribed on Apple → manage on Apple

  • Subscribed on Google → manage on Google

This ensures you are not billed twice.

🆙 What happens when I upgrade to Business plan?

If you're currently subscribed to the Starter plan and decide to upgrade to a Business plan, Apple or Google (not Beside) will automatically cancel your previous subscription and refund the unused portion of your Starter plan.

Here are a couple of examples to make this clearer:

Example 1 - Monthly to Monthly

You subscribed to Starter Monthly plan for $29.99 on September 1.

On September 15, you upgrade to Business Monthly plan for $49.99.

  • You'll be charged $49.99 for the new plan.

  • Apple will automatically refund the unused half of your previous subscription.

Rough estimate of refund:

Since the plan costs $29.99 per month and you used 15 out of 30 days, you'll be refunded roughly 50% of that amount - $29.99 ÷ 2 ≃ $15.

Example 2 - Yearly to Yearly

You subscribed to Starter Yearly plan for $199.99 on September 1.

On November 1, you upgrade to Business Yearly plan for $299.99.

  • You'll be charged $299.99 for the new plan.

  • Apple will refund the unused portion of your previous plan.

Rough estimate of refund:

Since the plan costs $199.99 for a year and you used 2 out of 12 months, here's how the refund breaks down:

  • $199.99 ÷ 12 months = $16.67 per month (rounded)

  • Used: 2 months × $16.67 = $33.34

  • Refund: $199.99 - $33.34 = $166.65 (approximate refund amount)

📌 The exact amount may vary slightly based on Apple's proration system and your billing cycle.

📉 What happens when I downgrade to the Starter plan?

If you switch from Business back to Starter, here’s what to expect:

🕒 When the downgrade takes effect

The downgrade will apply at the end of your current billing period.

You’ll keep Business features until that date.

📞 Phone lines & inboxes

  • You’ll lose access to all additional lines included in the Business plan.

  • Your original line and Personal Inbox will stay active.

  • Any additional inboxes you created won’t be deleted, they simply become inactive until you upgrade again.

👥 Teammates & shared workspaces

  • All teammates will lose access to shared lines and shared inboxes.

  • Team Inboxes will be deactivated and no longer visible to collaborators.

⚙️ Settings & features

  • Inbox-specific filters and configurations (per-line settings, rules, etc.) will be hidden.

  • Your conversations stay visible, but they no longer show which inbox they originally belonged to.

🔔 About the trial

When you start a Starter plan with a free trial, Apple or Google will automatically convert your trial into a paid subscription unless you cancel before the trial ends.

This means:

  • You can use all Starter features during the 7 days

  • You won’t be charged during the trial

  • If you don’t cancel before the end of the 7th day, the subscription renews automatically and the payment is processed by Apple or Google

📌 Beside cannot stop or refund charges made automatically by Apple or Google, but you may be able to request a refund directly through your App Store.
