On iPhone, Beside offers a custom Beside ringtone you can enable directly in the app's settings.
On Android, Beside uses your device's ringtone settings.
📌 Note: This article only applies to incoming call ringtones. Outgoing call tones (ringing, call waiting sounds) are controlled by carriers and cannot be changed in Beside.
Use the Beside ringtone (iPhone only)
On iPhone, you can enable a custom Beside ringtone so incoming Beside calls sound different from regular phone calls.
➡️ To enable it:
Open the Beside app
Go to Settings
Under Preferences, toggle Use Beside Ringtone on
When enabled, incoming calls on your Beside line will use the Beside ringtone instead of your device's default ringtone.
To go back to your device's default ringtone, simply toggle the setting off.
📌 Android: The custom Beside ringtone is currently available on iPhone only. On Android, Beside uses your device's ringtone settings (see below).
How Beside uses your device ringtone
When the Beside ringtone is not enabled (or on Android), Beside automatically follows your phone's ringtone configuration:
Your default device ringtone
Any custom ringtone set per contact
Your volume, silent mode, and Focus/Do Not Disturb settings
Change your device ringtone
On iPhone
Open Settings on your iPhone
Go to Sounds and Haptics
Tap Ringtone
Select a ringtone to preview it
Leave it selected - your choice is saved automatically
On Android
Steps vary slightly by phone model (Samsung, Pixel, etc.):
Open Settings
Tap Sound and vibration (or Sounds and notifications)
Tap Phone ringtone
Select your preferred ringtone
Confirm or tap Save
Set a custom ringtone for specific contacts
On iPhone
Open Contacts
Select the contact you want to personalize
Tap Edit
Scroll down and tap Ringtone
Choose a ringtone and tap Done
On Android
Open Contacts
Select a contact and tap Edit
Look for Ringtone or Set ringtone (sometimes under More options)
Choose a custom tone and save
Troubleshooting
If you're not hearing your ringtone for incoming Beside calls, check the following:
Your device is not in Silent Mode
Volume is turned up
Focus Mode / Do Not Disturb is off
If you enabled the Beside ringtone on iPhone but don't hear it, try toggling the setting off and on again
Restart your phone if the issue persists
