Add phone lines to your account

Add, manage, and remove Beside phone lines. Switch between lines, use the Personal Inbox, and add extra lines on the Beside subscription or legacy πŸ‘₯ Business.


Beside lets you add multiple phone lines to your account, switch between them, assign contacts to specific lines, and delete lines you no longer need.

πŸ’‘ Looking to forward multiple existing numbers to one Beside line? That's a different setup - you don't need to add multiple Beside lines for that. You can forward several of your existing phone numbers (e.g. your personal carrier numbers) to a single Beside line, and all calls will arrive on the same line regardless of which number was dialled. This works on every plan.


Add a new line

From the Beside mobile app

  1. Open Beside, then go to Settings

  2. Under Phone Numbers, tap + New phone number

  3. Choose the number for your new line

  4. Name and customize the line

  5. Set up the AI Receptionist for this line (voice, name, company, operating hours, greeting, and call handling scope)

From Beside on the web

  1. Go to app.beside.com and sign in

  2. Click Settings in the sidebar, then Phone Numbers under Workspace

  3. Click + New Number (top right)

  4. Follow the steps to choose a number and configure your new line


Add a line beyond your included count

How this works depends on your plan.

On the Beside subscription

Each seat includes 1 phone line. To add a line beyond what your seats include:

  1. Go to app.beside.com β†’ Settings β†’ Phone Numbers

  2. Click + New Number (top right)

  3. If you've used all your included lines, you'll see a confirmation modal showing the prorated cost ($4.99/month per extra line)

  4. Confirm to add the extra line. It's available immediately

  • Adding a line charges a prorated amount immediately for the rest of your current billing cycle, then $4.99/month at your next renewal.

  • Removing a line takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

On legacy πŸ‘€ Starter or πŸ‘₯ Business

The πŸ‘₯ Business plan includes 3 lines (1 on πŸ‘€ Starter). When you try to add an extra line, you'll see an upgrade prompt that opens a Stripe checkout.

On mobile (US only):

  1. Tap + New phone number - you'll see an upgrade card instead of the usual setup flow

  2. Tap to confirm - Safari opens with a checkout page

  3. The time remaining on your App Store subscription is automatically credited - you only pay the difference

  4. Complete checkout - you're taken back to the app and can add your new line right away

⚠️ Cancel your App Store or Google Play subscription after upgrading. Once you've completed the checkout, you'll have both your mobile store subscription (App Store or Google Play) and a Beside subscription running at the same time. Cancel your mobile store subscription to avoid being charged twice.

Switch between lines

Once you have multiple lines, a Lines selector dropdown appears at the top left of your main tab. Tap it and select the line you want to view - this filters your conversation history to show calls and messages for that line only.


What is the Personal Inbox?

When you have more than one line, you'll also see a Personal Inbox in the line selector. This is not tied to a phone number - it's a private space just for you. It contains:

  • Voice recordings from the in-app In-Person Recorder

  • Meeting captures from Beside for macOS

  • Daily Recaps from all your lines

  • Team DMs with other Beside users

  • Any item marked with a πŸ”’ lock


Assign a contact to a specific line

Beside remembers your preferred line for each contact, but you can change it anytime from the contact's card.

  1. Open Beside, then go to your main tab

  2. Open the conversation with the contact you want to update

  3. Tap the contact's name or phone number at the top of the conversation

  4. Under their profile picture, tap to select the line you want to assign them to

Once assigned, calls and messages to that contact will use the selected line by default.


Manage a line's settings on the web

Go to app.beside.com, click Settings in the sidebar, then Phone Numbers under Workspace. Click any line to open its settings page, organized into four tabs:

  • Personal - your personal preferences for this line, including Mute Line to silence calls or messages for yourself only without affecting other team members

  • General - line settings that affect everyone on the line:

    • Configure Number - view your Beside number, Change number, Port number from another provider, or enable Call Forwarding

    • Compliance & Privacy - toggle Silence Unknown Callers, Recording Consent, and Auto Censor Messages

  • Users - add or remove invited members from this line

  • Business Hours - turn on Business Hours and pick how your hours apply (Every day, Week days, or Custom for different hours per day) so notifications are silenced outside those hours. πŸ“– Set your Business Hours


Delete a line

From the mobile app

  1. Open Beside, then go to Settings

  2. Under Phone Numbers, tap the line you want to delete

  3. Scroll down to Manage, then tap Delete Inbox

  4. Confirm deletion

From πŸ“– Beside on the web

  1. Go to app.beside.com, click Settings, then Phone Numbers

  2. Click the line you want to delete

  3. Scroll down to Danger Zone, then click Delete inbox

  4. Confirm deletion

⚠️ Deletion is permanent. All chats, call logs, and settings for that line are permanently removed. Invited members who had access are automatically removed.

Billing: on the Beside subscription, deleting an extra paid line removes the $4.99/month charge at the end of your current billing cycle. On πŸ‘₯ Business, deleting a line doesn't change your subscription. To downgrade, go to Settings β†’ Plan & Billing.


FAQ

Will I lose data when changing my plan?

No. Your messages, calls, and settings remain intact when switching plans.

Can I downgrade from πŸ‘₯ Business back to πŸ‘€ Starter?

On Apple or Google, yes. Go to Settings β†’ Plan & Billing in the mobile app. On Stripe, πŸ‘€ Starter is being migrated to the Beside subscription, so this downgrade path isn't offered there.

What happens when I downgrade from πŸ‘₯ Business to πŸ‘€ Starter?

This applies to Apple and Google subscriptions only. The downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You lose access to additional lines created under πŸ‘₯ Business, all invited members are removed, and shared lines are deactivated. Your original line and Personal Inbox remain active. Additional lines are not deleted but become inactive: you can still view past conversations, but can't make or receive calls from them.

How much does πŸ‘₯ Business cost?

πŸ‘₯ Business is $49.99/month or $299.99/year (save ~50%). New subscribers can sign up through Apple or Google. Existing Stripe Business customers keep their plan. For web signups today, see the Beside subscription.

Can I have different AI Receptionist settings for each line?

Yes. Each line can have its own AI Receptionist greeting, knowledge, call handling behavior, Call Forwarding, and Caller ID settings - all managed individually from Settings, then Phone Numbers.

Can I share my line with invited members?

Yes. The πŸ‘₯ Business plan includes team collaboration. On mobile, invite members per line from Settings, then Phone Numbers, select a line, then Members, then Invite. On the web, go to Settings, then Members to invite teammates to your workspace, or open a specific line under Phone Numbers and use the Users tab.

Can I manage my lines and invited members from the web?

Yes. Go to app.beside.com, then Settings, to view and manage your lines (Phone Numbers), invite and manage invited members (Members), view available seats, manage your subscription (Plan & Billing), and update your profile.

What happens when I add a line beyond my included count?

On the Beside subscription, you'll see a confirmation modal with the prorated $4.99/month cost for the extra line. Confirm to add it. I was charged by both my mobile store and Beside after adding a line. What should I do?

This happens when your App Store or Google Play subscription isn't cancelled after completing the in-app upgrade. Your Beside subscription is active and correct - cancel your App Store or Google Play subscription to stop the duplicate charge.
