Add, manage, and remove phone lines on your Beside Business plan - including what happens when you reach your 3-line limit.

Add a new line

➑️ Steps (iPhone + Android)

  • Open Beside β†’ go to Settings

  • Under Phone Numbers β†’ tap + New phone number

  • Choose the number for your new Beside line

  • Name and Customize the line to stay organized

  • Set up the AI Receptionist for this line, including:

    • voice

    • preferred name, company name

    • industry, role

    • email, website, address

    • operating hours, FAQ & knowledge

    • greeting & call handling scope

What happens when you reach your 3-line limit

The πŸ‘₯ Business plan includes 3 lines. When you try to add a 4th line, you'll see an upgrade prompt directly in the app - no need to contact support.

➑️ How it works (iPhone only)

  1. Tap + New phone number - you'll see an upgrade card instead of the usual setup flow

  2. Tap to confirm - Safari opens with a checkout page

  3. The time remaining on your App Store subscription is automatically credited - you only pay the difference

  4. Complete checkout - you're taken back to the app and can add your new line right away

⚠️ Important: cancel your App Store subscription after upgrading

Once you've completed the checkout, you'll have both an App Store subscription and a Beside subscription running at the same time. Make sure to cancel your App Store subscription to avoid being charged by both Apple and Beside.

πŸ“Œ Current limitations:

  • Android: the in-app upgrade flow is not available yet. Go to app.beside.com, then navigate to Settings β†’ Plans & Billing to upgrade and add more lines.

  • Canada: due to App Store rules, the in-app checkout is not available for Canadian accounts. Go to app.beside.com, then navigate to Settings β†’ Plans & Billing instead.


Switch between lines

Once you have multiple lines, you'll see a Lines selector dropdown in your main Inbox tab.

➑️ Steps

  • Open Beside β†’ go to Inbox

  • Tap the Lines selector dropdown at the top left

  • Select the line you want to view

This filters your conversation history to show calls and messages for that line only.


What is the Personal Inbox?

Once you have more than one line, you'll see them all in the Line selector dropdown at the top left of the Inbox tab.

In the list, you'll see:

  • A line called "My Inbox" (unless you've renamed it) - the line tied to your first Beside number on the πŸ‘€ Starter plan.

  • Any additional lines you've created on the πŸ‘₯ Business plan.

  • A line called "Personal Inbox"

The Personal Inbox is not tied to a phone number and is a private space just for you. It contains:

  • Voice recordings (from the in-app In-Person Recorder)

  • Meeting captures (if you use Beside for macOS)

  • Daily Recaps from all your lines

  • Team DMs with other Beside users

  • Any item marked with a πŸ”’ lock


Assign a contact to a specific line

Beside remembers your preferred line for each contact, but you can change it anytime from the contact's card.

iPhone only

➑️ Steps

  • Open Beside β†’ go to Inbox

  • Open the chat with the contact you want to update

  • Tap the contact's name or phone number at the top of the conversation

  • Under their profile picture β†’ tap to select the line you want to assign them to

Once assigned, calls and messages to that contact will use the selected line by default. βœ”οΈ


Delete a line

  • Open Beside β†’ go to Settings

  • Under Phone Numbers β†’ tap the phone number you wish to delete

  • Scroll down to Manage β†’ tap Delete Inbox

  • Confirm deletion

⚠️ Deletion is permanent:

  • All chats, call logs, and settings for that line are permanently removed

  • The line is removed from all menus and dropdowns

  • Invited members who had access to this line are automatically removed

  • Deleting a line does not affect your subscription or billing amount - downgrade from Settings β†’ Manage Plan if needed


FAQ

Will I lose data when upgrading to the Business plan?

No. Your messages, calls, and settings remain intact when switching plans.

Can I downgrade from Business back to Starter?

Yes. You can switch back to the πŸ‘€ Starter plan at any time from Settings β†’ Manage Plan.

What happens when I downgrade from Business to Starter?

  • The downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period

  • You lose access to additional phone lines created under the Business plan

  • All invited members are removed and shared lines are deactivated

  • Your original line and Personal Inbox remain active

  • Additional lines are not deleted, but become inactive - you can still view past conversations, but can't make or receive calls from them

How much does the Business plan cost?

The plan is billed through Apple, Google, or Stripe (for web subscriptions).

  • $49.99/month or

  • $299.99/year (save ~50%)

Can I have different AI Receptionist settings for each line?

Yes. Each line can have its own AI Receptionist greeting, knowledge and behavior, Call Forwarding, and Caller ID settings - all managed individually from Settings β†’ Phone Numbers.

Can I share my line with my team?

Yes. The πŸ‘₯ Business plan includes team collaboration. You can invite invited members per line, allowing them to handle calls and messages for that line.

What happens when I tap to add a 4th line?

On iPhone, you'll see an upgrade prompt that opens a checkout page in Safari.

The time remaining on your App Store subscription is automatically credited - you only pay the difference.

After checkout, you're taken back to the app to continue.

This flow is only available on iPhone - Android and Canadian account owners should go to app.beside.com, then navigate to Settings β†’ Plans & Billing.

I was charged by both Apple and Beside after adding a line. What should I do?

This happens when the App Store subscription isn't cancelled after completing the in-app upgrade. Your Beside subscription is active and correct - you just need to cancel the App Store subscription to stop the Apple charge. πŸ“– Cancel your subscription
