How Beside login works
Beside does not use traditional passwords. Every time you sign in - on mobile, web, or macOS - you enter your login method and receive a one-time verification code via SMS to confirm your identity. This code acts as two-factor authentication (2FA).
Your login method is the method you used when you first created your account:
Primary phone number
Email
Google Sign-in
Apple Sign-in (iOS only)
Common login issues
"Unknown error" or error message when signing in
If you see an error message when trying to log in, try these steps in order:
Close and reopen the app - force-close Beside completely, then reopen it. On the web app, try refreshing the browser tab.
Check your internet connection - make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
Update the app - go to the App Store or Google Play Store and check for updates. On the web app, a hard refresh (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+R) reloads the latest version.
Restart your phone or browser - this can clear temporary issues that prevent login.
Reinstall the mobile app - delete Beside, reinstall it from the store, and log back in using the same login method you originally used.
β οΈ Important: When logging in - whether on mobile, web, or macOS - always use the same method you used to create your account. Using a different method will create a duplicate account.
SMS verification code not received
After entering your login details, you should receive a one-time code via SMS. If it doesn't arrive:
Wait a moment - codes can take up to 60 seconds to arrive, especially with weak signal.
Check your signal - make sure your phone has cellular service and can receive SMS.
Check for blocked shortcodes - Beside sends verification codes from shortcode numbers. If you've blocked shortcodes, you won't receive the code.
Disable your VPN - VPNs can interfere with SMS delivery. Try turning it off temporarily.
Check if your number was ported to Beside - if your login phone number is the same as your ported Beside number, the code will be delivered as an in-app notification instead of an SMS. Open the Beside mobile app and check your notifications.
π Phone number can't receive SMS?
If your login phone number is a landline, a VoIP-only number, or no longer has cellular service, it won't receive the verification code.
In that case, our support team can help you switch to an alternative login method (email, Google Sign-in, or Apple Sign-in) after verifying your identity.
App keeps logging you out or disconnecting
If Beside logs you out unexpectedly or feels unresponsive after being logged in:
Update the app - make sure you're running the latest version from the App Store or Google Play Store. On the web app, do a hard refresh.
Log out and log back in - go to Settings β Log out, then sign in again with the same login method.
Reinstall the mobile app - delete and reinstall Beside, then log back in with the same method.

Forgot which login method you used
If you're trying to sign in but can't remember whether you used your phone number, email, Google, or Apple, contact our support team. They can look up which login method is linked to your account.
β οΈ Don't guess: Trying different login methods (e.g. trying Google when you originally signed up with your phone number) will create a new, empty account instead of accessing your existing one.
π‘ Invited to Beside by a teammate or admin?
If you joined Beside through an invitation from your team, your login method is most likely the email address where you received the invite. Check your inbox for the original invitation email from Beside - the address it was sent to is almost always the one to use when logging in.
Accidentally created a duplicate account
If you logged in with a different method than the one you originally used, Beside may have created a second account. Signs of a duplicate account:
Your call history, contacts, or settings are missing
Your subscription appears inactive even though you're paying
You see a prompt to start a new trial or subscribe again
How to fix it:
Log out of the current account (Settings β Log out)
Log back in using the original method you used when you first created your Beside account

Log in across mobile, web, and desktop
Your Beside account works across the mobile app, the web app at app.beside.com, and Beside for macOS. The most common cause of cross-platform login issues is using a different login method on each surface.
Key rules:
Always use the same login method on every platform (mobile, web, macOS).
If you already have a mobile account and want to sign in on the web app, go to app.beside.com and choose the same login method (phone number, email, Google, or Apple) you used on mobile. You'll receive a one-time SMS verification code just like on mobile.
On Beside for macOS, click "Already have an account? Log in" - do not click "Continue with Google" unless Google was your original sign-up method.
If you signed up on desktop first with Google and want to use mobile, tap "Continue with Google" on the mobile app.

Change your login method
You cannot change your login method directly from the app. If you need to switch (e.g. from a phone number to Google Sign-in, or to a different email), our support team can update it for you after verifying your identity.
